The Psychiatric Drugs
Connection
Drugs and medication surrounding ADHD is well written about
and there are many people who are for these drugs and a lot who
are against. Ritalin is probably the most common drug
which is given to children with ADHD but it has been said in
recent years that this drug has been given out to many children
who don’t actually need it, many children across the nation
have been labelled with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder and been given drugs to calm them down, but there is a
fine line between needing the drug and not needing the
drug.
Giving drugs to children is not ideal and if
given to a child from an early age can have side effects
as adults. The younger in which a child takes a drug
the more likely that they are to continue use of this drug
into adulthood. There are side effects to taking any
drugs with chemicals in them, the most common effect is
putting the child into a zombie like state, although the
child is then calm and not running around it is not good
for the child to be in a dysfunctional state. The
drugs can also cause nausea.
There is an alternative way in which theses children can be
treated for ADHD and this is through therapy and child
psychiatrists link findings which have been discovered by
various doctors, therapists and hospitals in the past, if the
child has had bad or unpleasant experiences with a doctor in
the past then it is a psychiatrists job to weed out the
problems and try to resolve them by listening to the child and
understanding. Child psychiatrists deal with children in
a unique way in order to relate to each of the child’s problems
without upsetting the child.
With psychiatric treatment and talking the problem through
the child is much more likely to thrive in to adulthood, if too
stronger drugs are given to a child by a doctor this can have
terrible side effects and they don’t have to take a big dose of
the drug in order that this happens, the child can go into a
zombie like state on only 5mg of Ritalin, if this is the wrong
drug for the child. Ritalin is the most prescribed
drug for any child who is thought to have ADHD, the drug itself
has huge potential for any person using it to abuse it, as it
is a controlled substance and also doubles up as an amphetamine
and is used by club users to keep themselves awake and dance
through the night. There are side effects to using any
drug of this nature some of the side effects include abdominal
pain, loss of appetite, palpitations, headaches, nervousness
and nausea.
It is always best to treat any child with
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder through natural ways
if possible, this is why many people who have children with
ADHD are using psychiatric drugs and treatments instead of the
traditional medicine which is prescribed by doctors.
